1.4 THE NEEDLES & THE SUPPOSITORIES.

1. Vaccinations:

The regions/countries to visit determine the vaccinations.  Your house doctor can provide you with advise, but a specialized institute like the one in Antwerp - Belgium, can provide you with more up to date and accurate advise.  Website:  http://www.itg.be/itg/   Most of the evil comes with the mozzies, bugs or contaminated food or water.  The entire collection of vaccines costs and one should begin some months before he/she starts the voyage.  So, we got some of the following vaccines, but everyone has to decide how much punctures he/she wants or how much he/she wants to swallow:

1. Europe - Russia - Siberia - North America and the rest of the world:

• Tetanus + Diphtheria + Pertussis.
• Hepatitis A.
• Hepatitis B.
• Polio.
• Typhus.
• Measles.
• Rabies: no cure!
• Cholera: this vaccine is not administered any more.

2. Mongolia - Japan:

• Most of the above.
• Japanese Encephalitis.
• Chikungunya: no vaccine exists.
• Dengue: no vaccine exists.

3. Central America:

• Malaria: pills.
• Yellow Fever.
• Chagas: no vaccine exists.
• And including most of the above.

4. South America:

• See most of the above.

We had in the past some of the above antibodies administered and are immune for live.  For others we had one repetition shot.  And for some there is no vaccine or cure!

So, if you are bitten by the triatomes, you are toast.

2. Travel Pharmacy:

General:
Disinfectant, bandage, band aid, cotton, scissors, tick pince, splinter pince.
Suntan oil, insect repellent milk (better than spray) based on DEET, insect bite ointment, nose spray, eye drops.
Painkillers, antipyretic, antibiotics with large spectrum.
Anti diarrhoea, dysentery antibiotic, laxative.
Water disinfectant pills.

Specific:
Malaria pills, some weeks before we enter the concerned area.
